It dates from RDA's early years in California, probably around the time he was juggling fruit and kissing whales. IIRC, the Unofficial Story is that it was taken by a friend, and used by RDA as a holiday card for personal distribution. I got the image from Kate Ritter's website, of course.
Whale juggling. It's a team sport. You need plenty of people for some of the smaller whales, and it's suitable for regional meetings of small seaside towns. The larger whales are used only in cooperative unified freshman orientation of the Big Ten Universities. They always know when it's going to be a good four years with plenty of very competitive football and weightlifting when that years crop of freshmen can actually manage to juggle the sperm whales. ;)
What's funny was, when I started drawing the not-quite-three version of RDA's Jack (Dak), I kept finding excuses for having him strip down. It just seemed right for his character, and that's what little kids do anyways. I had no idea at the time that RDA had a habit of doing the same, so seeing this gave me an even bigger laugh!
We are, however, somewhat mollified by the fact that we now know you do all your sunbathing in either briefs or a Speedo...
*************** p.s. Loving the glimpse into Ancient Lolmac History (I've always been an ancient history fan, as you know), but yesterday was a busy day, so I wasn't able to weigh in, and won't be free from now until late night either. Life is like that sometimes.
Barely noticed!

I actually have no words.
Nothing coherent anyway.
