I've always liked RDA's way of handling that. The story goes that he was coming out of the grocery store when the paparazzi were slavering after Britney Spears (a celebrity that I give little enough attention to that I may well have seriously misspelled her name) while she was undergoing custody and divorce drama. As he came out the door, they all popped up from behind parked cars, and then seeing that it was only him, the popped right back again. He went around to where they were, peered over the cars, and cheerfully sing-songed "I SEEEEE you!" and then went about his business.

He also says that he very early on developed the habit of noticing them, and courteously posing for pictures. This apparently drives them crazy, because there's the celebrity being all nice and accommodating, but the pictures are almost unsalable. What the tabloids want are candids.

Oo, that's a lovely story! I hadn't heard that one before!

He got a little grumpier after his heart surgery -- that was the year that he ballooned up by 35 pounds between the inactivity and the drugs, and suddenly the paparazzi were REALLY INTERESTED, because Fat MacGyver was Big News. (The heart surgery was kept completely dark, so nobody knew why he'd suddenly gained weight.)

They ambushed him once when he was out with his mother, asking rude questions about his weight, and a couple of times when he was out with his daughter. He thought this was lousy manners
