When I decided I was going to start watching Stargate (a mere month or so ago), the first time I saw Jack in his formal blues was the first time I have EVER actually found a guy attractive in them.
...this is taking over my life. Between Jack and Daniel I cannot stop staring anymore u.u
Wow, only a month ago? Go you! I was a MacGyver fan back when that series first aired, but I didn't get into Stargate until a couple of years ago. And it has taken over my life (well, Mac and Jack between them), but with the immediate onset of Stockholm syndrome, I have no wish to be rescued.
Stockholm Syndrome with fandom is most definitely a rather nice and cozy feeling.
And well... *deep breath* If you care, here is the story of how I got into Stargate. It's not as if I'd never had a passing interest or heard of it before. It's just that I was six-years-old when it started coming on Showtime. A six-year-old child whose family did not have cable.
Anyway, I vaguely remember seeing random episodes, and as I'm watching it in order, I vaguely remember the plots of certain episodes as early as Season 3 (where I am now in my watching of the series).
However, my first experience with SG-1 was when I went on vacation when I was about 13 with another girl I attended church with to visit this family that my parents knew through church. Basically, the idea was that since there were next to no kids in my church, it might be good for us to go meet some young people.
So while we were staying with this family, the father of whom was a professional author/theologian/philosopher sort of person, it came to be some random evening (whatever night new episodes of Stargate were coming on in 2004), a strange sort of hush came over the house. At five minutes until the hour, the entire family had to gather into the living room, as well as myself and the girl I was with, and the other houseguests that had come over for dinner that evening.
All of the lights went off and one of the kids was sent upstairs to go to one of the bedrooms that had televisions, to make sure that a VHS tape as in a VCR, which apparently was also set to record for the next hour.
...then we proceeded to watch that week's episode of SG-1 in absolute silence. This was apparently a family ritual for them, including the dad, because it was the only show they all enjoyed or something. So it was.. compulsory family time or some such. It was hilarious and kind of fun.
So the fact that I enjoyed that evening always made some very faint memory of Stargate stick out in my mind, but I wasn't resourceful enough at the time to track it down. Then my uncle, upon finding out that I enjoyed sci-fi, suggested the Stargate movie to me since I was home schooled for half of my education, and I watched movies a lot in lieu of a social life. I enjoyed the movie, and started making more of an effort to watch Stargate when it was coming on television as a new show, but it was always difficult to remember.
So sometime back in November my friend whom I instant-message roleplay with a lot started talking about Stargate and I took an interest in the fact that she seemed to be very interested. So I told her that after I watched some of it that we could roleplay it.
...she was keen on the idea, so I have been watching it for the past few weeks and I'm completely and totally in love with it.
Yay! Thanks for sharing the story -- that was neat.
I soemtimes wonder what it would be like to get into a TV show while it was actually on the air . . . but I'd have to cope with commercials, which I loathe. I have been following SGU, and enjoying it, but a friend of mine Tivos it, so we get to skip the ads.
I haven't really been extremely into a TV show when it was on air since the West Wing. I used to watch that religiously with my parents when I was a kid... Shame I've forgotten most of it, though, even though I think I saw every single episode.
LiveJournal is being incredislow and silly tonight so I can't seem to get confirmation about whether or not my replies to your PM were going through, so I came to a thread where I had already appropriately replied to the picture to respond, since this process seems to be more technically stable than the PMing on this site in general.
Anyway :)
I just wanted to assure you (for the fifth or sixth time, considering my possibly failed attempts with LJPM) that my absence had nothing to do with your "being legal" comment, which I actually found quite amusing.
I'll be back around possibly some this weekend, but my absence has had to do with the fact that I had to start classes again last Thursday and I've been focused on that, tired, and having issues with my roommate occupying my thoughts.
Also I recently signed up for au_bigbang, so I'm plotting that project :)
But yeah... we're fine and you shouldn't worry about me. I'm really hard to offend unless you're being bigoted (particularly about sexuality or religion), which you're anything but <3
