I would assume that they'd have to test both, and follow it up with further tests using coconuts.

But they'd also have to conduct the tests without disrupting nesting patterns or endangering habitat.

Oh, absolutely! And they'd have to carfully determine the carrying capacity of said birds, both alone and in tandem, using a line carrying device of some sort.

Grip location on random objects, such as coconuts, would also need to be studied in later experiements...
