Without their gang colors, the normal social bonds and boundaries are breaking down. They don't seem to be adapting as I had been hoping. We tried rubbing ourselves with grass, hoping for grass stains to add some color. Apparently Kermit was right, and it's not easy being green, especially in a black and white world. I'm now trying to jury rig a way to get the plane into the air in hopes that we can all bundle into it during the afternoon's thunder showers, head towards Kansas, find a twister, and make our way to Oz. They have plenty of vivid, overblown color there. Perhaps they can lend us some. Still, I think that the lesson that the world exists mostly in shades of grey is an important lesson that I hope the kids will remember and apply when they finally return home to the 'hood.

Which leads us back to one of Mac's basic ethical conflicts: it's not green being easy.
