Daniel was whirling around to tiptoe back in the direction they had come when Teal'c stepped deftly around him and through the door frame and out into the daylight beyond. At this Daniel sprinted around to get in front of him once more, this time facing him and attempting to block his view, a futile undertaking in view of Teal'c's extra height.
"Daniel?"
This was Jack, and to Daniel's surprise, he didn't sound upset, merely curious. Seeing a ghost of a smile on Teal'c's features, Daniel dared to cautiously turn and face his other two teammates.
They were standing in the glade by the palace fully clothed, right down to their caps - Thank God! - Sam just a foot behind Jack, both of them regarding the other half of the team quizzically.
"Oh!" said Daniel.
"Daniel?" O'Neill reiterated, with a bit less curiosity, and a bit more impatience.
"I thought..." Daniel stammered, "that is you sounded like... I assumed..."
Sam continued to seem puzzled, but Jack burst into a glorious grin, which he turned to share with his second, and seeing that she was still confused, he said, by way of explanation, "Sara and I had a running joke that Charlie was more likely to be warped for life from listening to a good back scratching than he would be if he ever overheard us..." He seemed to realize that he was wandering into awkward territory and tapered off, although his hands made nearly comtreya-like circles of ineloquence for a bit, until he realized the futility of continuing them and dropped them to rest on his P-90.
Sam Carter very good at math. She put one and one together and got... one, with two backs. She blushed.
"Daniel! You thought the Colonel and I...?"
She stopped before she could mention the unthinkable, the courtmartialable.
"He did," said Teal'c.
"We've gotta get you out of that office more, Dr. Jackson. Get you..." Here Jack, a master of tactics, decided to retreat in view of the gathering cloud on Samantha Carter's brow.
"You and I will frequent Bert's Bar when we have returned to the SGC," said Teal'c. "They have Jell-O wrestling on Thursday nights. You will enjoy it."
While Daniel worked out whether Teal'c's last utterance had been a prediction or a pronouncement - It was often a bit difficult to tell - Jack thanked his lucky stars that Teal'c had not seen fit to let slip that the last time Teal'c had been to Bert's for Jell-O wrestling it had been Teal'c's idea, but Jack's truck and credit card that had been used. He had a feeling that Carter just wouldn't understand.
his hands made nearly comtreya-like circles of ineloquence -- this made me howl in particular! And "the courtmartialable" (there's a fine example of exquisite coinage!) and "You will enjoy it."
