Dadgummit, no matter what browser I use I can never see the mouseover text, which vexeth me mightily because I'm missing out on the funny.

Granted, that's not the end of the world, because the pictures and captions are always still totally worth it.

If you're using Firefox, you need to install an add-on called Popup ALT Attribute. Instructions on how to do this are here:

Primarily Safari. All hail Steve Jobs. Any man who wears that much black can't be all bad. I use Camino to post to fanfiction.net and read my work mail because Lotus Notes hates Safari, and I have Firefox installed just in case neither of those options works out on any given moment. I may have another experimental browser lying around somewhere (anyone want to fire up Lynx...?) But mostly I go with the path of least resistance.

It is sad that I am so nerdy.

Sad indeed. I weep bitter tears. Mostly because you have completely out-geeked me; I use neither Safari nor Camino. I still think Firefox is cool, especially with the ad blockers running.

In Safari, like Firefox, the browser does not show ALT text as a mouseover, because the coders who developed Safari rather self-righteously decided that it shouldn't, because the alt text wasn't originally designed to be used that way, and why should they accomodate an evolved usage when it wasn't in the original design? Besides, it was an IE thing and IE is evil.

In Firefox, unlike Safari, someone went out and developed an add-on that re-enables the mouseover as a feature. Those who prefer to regard it as a bug are free to refrain, of course.

So I would suggest that you view LOLMac in Firefox, after installing the Popup Alt Text Attribute Add-on. Especially since you've now contributed thereunto! Or you can write your own add-on for Safari that shows Alt text.

...but not quite that nerdy... This may be the thing that converts me to using Firefox at home as well as at work. (Where we're supposed to be using IE but... do I need to finish that sentence?)

Bwahaha . . . as the Official IT Person at work, I was able to Officially Decree that, except for a very very short list (3) of Approved Safe Sites which can be accessed in IE, everyone is to use Firefox with Adblock and Flashblock installed.

Woo!! I can read the mouseover text! Uh. I may now have to do that thing where I go back through all the previous pictures and geek out completely. Not that it'll be a hardship!

I used to be able to tell people that the mouseover text only started in early 2008 . . . but since I do the linkbacks on most LOLs, I've taken to adding it to some of the older ones when a chain of links goes that far back.

On the other hand, there's a nice link at the top of the home page that will zap you all the way to the first LOL, and you can take it from there . . . feel free to comment, too.

Change is scary... the first thing I had to do was fix the config file so that images for buttons and such would load up on one of the pages I go to most. Of course, that makes me feel all competent and such, so we may make this transition yet.

I always feel slightly self-conscious about commenting on things that are not recently posted, however, in this case, I feel that it should bring a nice air of dada to your life.
