Possibly -- except that 'y' is never a long E sound. It would have to be 'i', which is never pronounced "I".

There are at least six different ways of spelling the long 'i' diphthong. Some of them use the letter i, in combination. I suspect that, to an expert ear, they're all pronounced subtley differently. I am not an expert, just an enthusiast.

As with most languages other than contemporary English, the letter 'i' is a long E, and the letter 'e' is usually a longish A.

The letter 'y' is usually pronounced as a schwa. o_O
